HOT MELT PSA

Self-adhesives are defined as adhesives capable of adhering to a wide range of surfaces, achieving a high degree of adhesion and cohesion of the adhesive to the substrate in a matter of seconds, simply by applying pressure to the adhesive itself. Self-adhesives are also known as PSA adhesives, which stands for Pressure Sensitive Adhesive.

They are physically cured adhesives, meaning that the base polymer of the adhesive is already formed but dissolved, and pressure must be applied to these adhesives for them to adhere to the surface.

  • These adhesives have a high initial tack, which is defined as the degree of stickiness of an adhesive. There is a wide range of self-adhesive or PSA adhesive families, which can be classified according to:

Adhesive properties:

  • Permanent self-adhesives, i.e. once they have adhered to a substrate for a certain period of time, they lose their self-adhesive properties.
  • Removable self-adhesives are adhesives that, once separated from the substrate to which they were initially adhered, are capable of re-adhering a limited number of times.
Description
It is a widely used adhesive in industries ranging from healthcare to automotive and labelling, thanks to its versatility. It is pressure sensitive, providing a very good degree of adhesion on difficult surfaces.
